(2009) HTC HERO Android
Tellingly, the HTC
’s appeal has grown as the year has gone on, and it stands out clearly as one of the three best phones of the year.(2007) APPLE iPHONE
We all knew it would be included here, so we’ll get it over with first. The iPhone’s arrival turned the mobile phone industry on its head. Love it or hate it, the iPhone’s arrival forced the rest of the industry to raise its game, and we’re all better off for it.
(2004) MOTOROLA
The RAZR V3 came along at the zenith of Motorola’s powers, and its clamshell form factor and edgy design made it probably the single biggest contributor to mobile phones becoming mainstream fashion icons.

(2003) PALM TREO
The Treo 600, made by Handspring, was one of the first devices to show us the potential of the mobile phone for doing a lot more than just making calls and typing texts. If Palm knew what that would do to the PDA market it dominated, it may never have bothered.

(2003) SONY ERICSSON T610
The first complete product of Sony’s partnership with Ericsson was a multimedia specialist that was ahead of its time. It brought the likes of Bluetooth and an on-board camera into the mainstream, doing more than any other phone to bring phones and photography together.

(2002) BLACKBERRY
BlackBerry took its push email devices to a new level by adding phone calling with the 5810. It was hopelessly basic by today’s standards, and you needed to plug in a headset to make calls, When it was released and what it cost.

(2002) NOKIA 6310i
It started off its life very much as a business phone, but a rock-solid feature set including GPRS, Bluetooth and infrared made it an enduring favourite. What was a forward-thinking business phone when it launched is still in service today as a simple and reliable workhorse.
(2001) ERICSSON T68
This good-looking handset was Ericsson’s first to feature a colour screen. It was also one of its very last as a sole entity, resurfacing as the Sony Ericsson T68i. It was a popular all-rounder that set the tone for Sony Ericsson handsets for years to come.

(2000) NOKIA 3310
The 3210 misses out on our list as it came out in 1999, but it’s replacement didn’t do too badly either, selling 126 million worldwide. Features like an interchangeable case, voice dialling and multiple-message texting built on the already solid foundation set by the 3210.

(1999) NOKIA N95
It was Nokia’s bad luck that the folks over at Cupertino were just getting ready to floor us with the iPhone, because in its own way the N95 was just as earth-shattering. What the iPhone did for the user interface the N95 did for the features list. Today’s best smartphones combine both.
